USC in early pursuit of talented 2023 Bosco DB Jshawn Frausto-Ramos

July 14, 2021

The 2022 recruiting class has many dominoes yet to fall, but USC’s coaching staff has already started creating relationships with a few talented 2023 prospects. One of them is talented St. John Bosco DB Jshawn Frausto-Ramos.

He and fellow Brave RJ Jones‍ were both offered by USC earlier this year and both just recently transferred from Alemany. Huge additions for Bosco’s already impressive defensive backfield.

USC SCOOP caught up with Jshawn a week ago to talk about his interest in USC, a few recent school visits and more.

Jshawn Frausto-Ramos Q&A With Scott Schrader

SS: Where did you visit in June?

JFR: “I visited Ohio St., ASU and USC."

SS: How impactful is it getting to Ohio St. and ASU?

JFR: “All those schools are different and have different environments. ASU was hot, Ohio St. is in a smaller city and its cool seeing different environments."

SS: What does talking nice mean from USC?

JFR: "It was a big option, growing up I’ve always been a USC fan. Summer camps, coaches would let me go down there and see the players. Coach Kenechi, when he was there, he was my favorite. When he was there he would take me down to meet the players and meet the staff."

SS: What did you get out of your latest visit to USC?

JFR: “They showed us around the entire campus, because the campus has gotten much bigger since I camped there in 7th grade. Then we went with Coach Donte and watched film and he was breaking everything down. It's really cool how detailed he is when he does that. It was like preparing for a game. I was just a sponge in that room and listening to every word he said. We were in the room with all the players, too."

SS: Who are you talking to most from USC?

JFR: "Coach Donte, he’s saying if you need anything let me know. Not weekly, just here and there."

SS: Is USC a school you envision being in the mix?

JFR: "Yes, USC is a big option for me. It's close to him and that's always a big factor, I really like Coach Donte and I already have relationships with guys on staff and guys on the team."

SS: How do you feel when you're at USC like you were on the last visit?

JFR: “I felt like I was going there on the last visit. I felt like I was part of the team. We also had a photo shoot that was a lot of fun and really cool."

SS: Any other schools that will be big options? It is early but I ask because sometimes there are.

JFR: "Really, any schools that are interested in me. But I know I'll visit Oregon and Louisville at some point this year. I'll probably be at the Louisville-Clemson game."

SS: Are there a couple schools you really want to visit?

JFR: "Maybe some schools that have a different environment than California weather. Maybe some snow, like Michigan."

SS: Position wise, you’re out here doing all sorts of stuff.

JFR: "Positon wise, I can play anywhere. You can put me at nickel, corner, safety, put me in the box.”

SS: Premium, what does it mean to you?

JFR: "Premium is family. That’s how I would describe it in one word."

SS: How’d you meet Fig?

JFR: "I went to a practice in East LA college a few years ago. He said I was a good corner. At the time I was thinking running back, but he said I could be a good DB. Ever since then, I’ve been working on that."

SS: What’re you working on when you come out here? You have fun, you like hanging with these guys and they are family but there’s also stuff you want to accomplish.

JFR: "Winning, having fun. Working on some things, being more patient, things like that."

SS: Talk about eh opportunity to finish up your high school career at St. John Bosco.

JFR: “It's all about preparing for college. Practices are set up just like they are in colleges."
