B Ryder's Spring Game Wrap Up

April 17, 2021

Drake London on the outside looks really good. USC still has good running backs. The offensive line not as bad as we may have thought. Turnovers? Good or bad?
Jay Toia is a lot to block in the middle.
The defense is on a mission to get that ball.

The Trojan defense really showed out during the spring game today. With a multitude of sacks and takeaways, The defense showed why reports have them ahead of the Offense.  The defense was led up front by a multitude of defensive linemen on the cardinal and gold teams. Josh Jackson Jr, Chris Steele, Dorian Hewett, and Spencer Gilbert all had interceptions and the Trojan defense also recovered a fumble. By my count, they also racked up 3 sacks on the day.

On offense, the Trojans showed a want to run the ball, and they also had a few big passes mixed in. Drake London showed that he will be a threat on the outside for the Trojans this year.  The Trojan running backs all had good showings and the offensive line didn’t do as bad as some may have thought. While the young quarterbacks did struggle a bit, Jaxson Dart finished the game with a great touchdown pass to Michael Jackson III.

Overall I felt today was a good day for the Trojans to get better. It was the first time in a long time we saw an actual game format for the spring showcase. The Trojans still have two weeks left to practice and I’m sure much more will improve before then.
