USC Scoop Spring Camp Report: Day 4 With Coach Colbert & Drake London

April 6, 2021

One thing is evident when you listen to USC wide receiver coach Keary Colbert; He is all business. He may come across as a soft-spoken individual; however, he is also one of the most competitive guys you'll encounter. It's always about getting his charges prepared to be better than they were the play before and the day before.

Drake London wrapped up Coach Colbert succinctly with his description of what it's like to play for his position coach. "Real. He's real with you and he's there to help you in every aspect. People want to play for him because he's real with you and he's not gonna hold anything back", London said. With the culture that's being built and the emphasis on toughness, Colbert's style blends perfectly with a position group that is known more for finesse than physicality.--For those of you old enough to remember, Keary played the game with both power and finesse. I tried to ask him which roster player reminded him most of himself when he played, but he wanted to spread the love around the room.

When the coach wasn't heaping praise on Drake, he spent some time talking about the new kids and what type of veteran leadership a player like KD Nixon brings to the room.

Later this afternoon, when the team begins week-2 of spring camp, the team will have their second live tackle session in full pads when they take over the Coliseum, and USC Scoop will be there to gather all of the NOtes & Observations.
