USC a Strong Option with 4-Star 2022 TX CB Julian Humphrey

January 11, 2021

Despite spending seven months in Texas and USC offering talented 4-Star Houston (TX) CB Julian Humphrey‍ on May 18, 2020, Sunday was my first opportunity to see him play in person. He was playing for Team Domo at the Dallas Pylon Sports 7v7 at AT&T Stadium.

I wasn't even aware he was playing in the event until the end of the day on Saturday. So while he was collecting four interceptions Satuday, I was obviously doing something extremely important elsewhere on property (I Kid). One reason I wish 7v7 Clubs or those running 7v7 events would provide rosters...but they don't..

While speaking with coaches and few Team Domo players before heading back the hotel, Humphrey mentioned he had an offer from the Trojans. So I asked him his name and if he had any interest in USC.

“I have a lot of interest in USC,” said Humphrey.”They're definitely in my top five and USC will be a school I take an official visit to if they let us. I'll take an unofficial too, but we can't go anywhere until May at the earliest. USC was a school a followed growing up...I've always loved the Fight On and the Trojans."

Although USC signed one of its most impressive Defensive Back classes ever in 2021, the Trojans will be losing many on the current roster in after the 2021 and 2022 seasons. So, the opportunity to come in and immediately compete for playing time is very appealing to Humphrey.

“They're telling me I can come in as a freshman and possibly make a big impact right away,” Humphrey said.”They like to play a lot of DBs and play them early. And USC is in Cali, so that's also something I like a lot. They're talking to me about playing corner, safety or nickel...mainly cornerback."

Coaches Donte Williams and Craig Naivar have done a great job building a relationship with Humphrey. Continuing to grow those relationship will be vital in USC’s effort to lure him to Los Angeles.

“I have a great relationship with both of them,” said Humphrey. “The day they offered me they said they didn't watch my highlights, they watched film from four of my games. They said what impressed them most is I never took a play off. That meant a lot to me."

Humphrey told us since earning the offer from USC, he's learned things about the Trojans that added to his interest.

“I love the tradition of the football program, USC Will be the best team in the Pac-12 in my opinion, they produce the most NFL players and USC is just really high on my list right now,” Humphrey said.”I don't have a top school list, but USC will be one of them."

USC SCOOP will see Humphrey several more times in the next few months and we'll provide updates throughout the recruiting process.

As of  January 11, the schools Humphrey communicates most with are USC, Texas A&M, Washington, Florida and Florida St.
