Mater Dei WR CJ Williams Impressive On & Off the Field

When asked about which dudes are the Top Wide Receiver prospects from the West Coast for the class of 2022, three names quickly come to mind. 5-Star Tetairoa McMillan‍ from Servite in Anaheim (CA), 4-Star Tobias Merriweather‍ from Union HS in Camas (WA) and 4-Star CJ Williams‍ from Mater Dei in Santa Ana (CA). We're not claiming there aren't others who are extremely talented, but those three have stood out each time we've seen them in person.

We first saw Williams grabbing passes from QB Bryce Young at the Orlando Scandrick 7v7 at Los Alamitos in May 2019. Although just still just a freshman at the time, Williams had the look of a future Elite player for the Monarchs...and that's precisely what he's become.

Last June Williams competed at the USC Elite Invite Camp and earned a scholarship offer from the Trojans shortly after. It was his seventh offer and he's earned 40 more since then. That's not a typo, he's earned 40 scholarship offers since June 2019 and he's only a few months into his Junior year.

As impressive as Williams is on the football field, he's just as impressive off it. He's humble, an outstanding student, bright and a kid you can't help but root for. The type of young man coaches dream of.

USC SCOOP hadn't talked to Williams since our SCoopTV Episode earky in the Spring and finally caught up with him last week after practice at Mater Dei.

We talked about the Trojans, where things stand with recruiting, Mater Dei, schools standing out and much more.
