USC has signed several Big-Time players from Servite HS in Anaheim over the years, with Ryan Kalil, Chris Galippo, Matt Kalil and DJ Shoemate being the most recent notables, but haven't signed any top prospects since the Trojans signed Kalil and Shoemate in 2008.

Those who follow high school football in southern California know the Trinity League is one of the most competitive prep football leagues in the nation. They also know Mater Dei and St. John Bosco have dominated the league the past 8-10 years. But when Coach Troy Thomas previously served as head coach at Servite from 2005-2012, the Friars won seven league titles, two CIF PAC 5 Championships and one CA State Title while going 75-25 overall in eight seasons.

Thomas returned to Servite three years ago, so it’s not surprising he has the program on the rise and has several Elite D-I prospects on his roster. USC is heavily pursuing two of Servite’s top 2022 players in 5-Star Wide Receiver Tetairoa McMillan‍ and Tight End Keyan Burnett‍.

USC SCOOP spoke to both after practice and while McMillan (aka TMac) hasn't begun seriously focusing on recruiting, TMac is a Top priority for the USC he said he has interest in Trojans.

“USC is one of the schools I heard from on September 1, but the relationship right now is kind of slow, because I'm not really talking to any college coaches right now,” McMillan said. ”But USC is definitely one of the schools I'm interested in."

McMillan shared what's behind his interest in USC.

"It's close to home, the coaching staff is great, I think they have a great football program, it's a great school and I know they have a lot of good players committed there...and already there."

Unlike McMillan, Keyan Burnett keeps in regular contact with several college coaches recruiting him, including USC Tight Ends Coach John David Baker.

“I'm definitely spending a lot of time talking to coaches from USC, “said Burnett.”I talk every week or every other week with Coach (Clay Helton) and Coach John David Baker, so I've built a great relationship with them. Coach Baker is a great guy, I've built a really great relationship with him since September 1 when they first hit me up and I look forward to possibly becoming a Trojan."

Although Burnett could easily be classified as wide receiver or tight end, Baker and the Trojans have plans to use him a lot like they use Drake London. Burnett and London are very similar in size with their 6-5 height and strong frame.

“They plan to use me like a big wide receiver and tight end,” Burnett said.”They've definitely showed me where I fit in with their offense and I've watched film with them. I watched highlights of Drake London and that's exactly the position they see me playing. Being the position I play, the USC offense is definitely attractive."

We’ll catch up with TMac, Burnett and other top Servite players like 2022 QB Noah Fifita (Cal Offer), 2022 OL/DL Mason Graham, OG Shancco “Ise” Matautia (Idaho St. Offer), 2024 ATH Emmett Moseley (LSU Offer) and others in the upcoming months.
