YAY Or NAY: The Fall Frustration Is Over

September 24, 2020

The Pac-12 will vote to start their 2020 football season on 10/31.

YAY–According to everyone in the know who has been following the saga closely, most notably, Jon Wilner from the San Jose Mercury News and John Canzano courtesy of The Oregonian, the Pac-12 have come to a decison, and will [finally] announce on Thursday the conference’s return to the 2020 college football season.  And because the Pac-12 was the last one to cross the finish line, Larry Scott, gets the privilege of carrying the bags for everyone else as a Halloween treat for all of his previous tricks!

Every Pac-12 team will play on opening weekend.

NAY--Stanford and Cal will open their respective seasons one week later as they Battle for the Ax.  Blame Santa Clara County and their cohorts for making the Bay area teams stagger their kick off from the rest of the conference.  Once again, the state of California is challenging the Pac-12’s leadership for the 2020 Incompetence Award.  Right now it’s too close to call in the race for Worst Leadership of the Year.

USC will play UCLA to start the season.

NAY--Woulda...coulda...shoulda.   We’ve been reporting here on USC SCoop that USC has been aggressive behind the scenes pushing to play a season sooner rather than later.  Unfortunately, the beaksetball school out west would rather play later...if at all.   So if the Pac-12 might be forced to stagger their start up date, with some schools using Halloween, and some waiting one week later.

USC Scoop’s Scott Schrader started a poll asking who they believe the Trojans will open the season against.   FWIW, I voted Team Tempe.

The Pac-12 will play their CCG on December 19 and still eligible for the CFP.

YAY--The ACC and the BIG XII have been shuffling their respective schedules around as they deal with COVID hiccups, allowing the ACC the flexibility to play their Conference Championship Game on the same day the Pac-12 is believed to be scheduling their CCG, 12/19.  The CFP selection committee plans to choose the playoff participants on 12/20.

Alijah Vera-Tucker will return to the Trojans this fall.

YAY--When the B1G entered the playoff chase, there was no fanbase was happier than Buckeye Nation.  Since the Buckeye announcement, Ohio State, has received two commitments to play this fall after choosing to Opt-out.  The first was projected NFL draft pick, Shaun Wade...the Buckeye’s can now add Wyatt Davis back to their starting  offensive line.  Now that Heisman contender, Justin Fields, has his big protector back, will, Vera-Tucker, reverse course too?  Wondering if Kedon Slovis has any sway?

USC Basketball will have a player enroll early this December.

YAY--USC Scoop has learned C/O 2021(SG) Reese Dixon-Waters will enroll early this December.   By enrolling early and jump starting his college career, RDW, will look to contribute immediately on the practice court as the Trojans prepare for March Madness.

In other #BasketballSChool news...the other day I reached out to a couple of sources attempting to get an update on the fall schedule which is in limbo.   I was curious about the out of conference and preseason tourney schedules since Georgetown announced they were pulling out of the Wooden Classic later this fall.

As of today, USC, has not changed their OOC schedule, however, things are obviuosly very fluid.  Trojan fans are looking forward to playing  powerhouse hoops programs Kansas and Gonzaga this season, so it would be a shame if the Mobley’s were not abe to play with each other on a national stage while continuing to build up the Trojan basketball program Coach Enfield and his staff are laying a foundation for.
