The Latest With USC and 2022 Rancho Verde(CA) C Dylan Lopez

September 13, 2020

Dylan Lopez was one of the 2022 prospects contacted on September 1st, and he shares his relationship with the USC Staff to Josh An of USCSCoop.Com. With Brett Neilon, Justin Dedich, and Gino Quinones all slowly becoming veterans, the Trojan staff is looking for more center help and they are currently recruiting local SoCal prospect Lopez.

Q&A with Josh An

JA:  What’s the communication with USC been like lately and which coaches do you talk to usually?

DL: I talk to Coach Drevno and Coach Viane every week. Just chop it up and talk about what we got going on during the week. Now that they can text me and stuff, I hear from them a lot more and it’s great! Always talking about me playing for the Trojans and how excited they are about me.

JA: Sounds like they’re making you feel like a priority? Also, do they see you playing center at the college level?

DL: Definitely do give off the “priority” vibe. And yes I’m getting recruited to play center as of right now.

JA: Did you get a chance to visit before the pandemic shut everything down?

DL: No I didn’t.

JA: Have you ever gotten a chance to see the campus before?

DL: Recently , we tried to go but nothing was open so we kinda drove around the outside of the campus. But growing up, me and my family went to 2-3 spring games so I’ve been around campus before.

JA: How’d you like it? I know it’s not the same as an unofficial but still haha

DL: haha you right, but I love the campus and the coliseum is great also. Just overall a great feel.

JA: in terms of your recruitment moving forward, do you have a timeline in terms of a commitment? or are you gonna try and hold off and take a slower approach?

DL: Taking it slow right now. Still early for me. Just want to take the time to build relationships with all these coaches and see how things play out.

JA: Trying to take more visits once COVID is cleared I’m guessing too? And what ultimately are you looking for in a college?

DL:Yea definitely want to take visits. Ultimately, I’m looking at how my relationship with the coaching staff , specifically my position coach, is. Also looking at how early I’ll be able to make an impact at that school (will I be able to have a chance to start right away). Location doesn’t matter to me at all , just want to be in a good situation and be comfortable at that school because that will be my home for the next 3-4 years.

JA: What makes you(if you are)interested in USC?

DL: Biggest things are the tradition and history of success there. Also knowing the amount of guys that have came out of there and gone pro. But now with my own recruiting experience with them, just the family feel to it. I’ve talked to pretty much every coach on the offensive and special teams staff. They showing love from all aspects of the team and that means a lot.
