In this upcoming season Larry Turner-Gooden‍ is set to play his Junior year at St. Bernard High School in Playa Del Ray High School. However he didn’t always go there, as for his first two seasons in High School, he played his ball over at Calabassas High School where he was coached by new member of the Trojans coaching staff: Chris Claiborne. Because of this connection, we knew that LTG had very strong interest to USC, and we wanted to find out where he currently stands with the Trojans.

Turner-Gooden is a 6’0” 179 lb athlete with potential to play on both sides of the ball. On defense, he likely would play as a safety, while on offense he can play as a receiver. For the Trojans, he would likely play as a defender. He brings a strong level of physicality that makes him feared defensively to play as an in the box safety.

Back in November of 2019, Larry Turner-Gooden recieved a scholarship offer from the Trojans, and he put out this tweet:

As of now, Turner-Gooden has nearly 30 offers from a plethora of College Football’s most elite teams. Schools like Alabama, Clemson, Georgial, LSU, Oregon and more have all extended a scholarship.

Here is the interview from earlier this week with Larry Turner Gooden.

Seth Cohen: What causes you to have interest in USC?

Larry Turner-Gooden: Well first USC is home so you can’t go wrong with being home with family (not that that matters at all), USC is legendary. Many guys from USC have been and still are in the NFL and have the most draft picks. I stay in contact with coaches and have pretty good relationships with them. My recent High School coach Chris Claiborne just got the job up there so that’s big! The culture speaks for itself.

SC: You mentioned Chris Claiborne being your HS coach at Calabasas, could you talk a bit more about your guys relationship?

LTG: We already have that great coach & player relationship. Most definitely someone that gonna tell me what’s in my best interest, already knows all of my strengths and weaknesses, what I need to look for in a school and regardless of where he’s at he’s gonna tell me what I need to hear and not say something just to get me to USC

SC: How long have you guys known each other? And is the factor of trust important to you?

LTG: Since My freshman year of high school, and most definitely. Trust is big for me and my family and if your a coach and you give me your word, then I’m expecting you to follow up on that. I’m not telling nor expecting any coach to promise me anything because nothing is promised.

SC: Aside from Chris, what coaches on the USC staff have you gotten the chance to talk with?

LTG: Coach (Craig) Naivar , Coach Donte (Williams), Coach (Clay) Helton, Coach Gavin (Morris) yes I talk to coaches when I get a chance too

SC: What have you taken away from your talks with these coaches?

LTG: Their knowledge and how to be a better man in life , I learn how im supposed to be a Trojan

SC: Does being in LA add any interest to USC? Like with the city and environment surrounding the campus?

LTG: Yes of course you know grew up in south central la and moved to Calabasas I adapt to different cities areas in environments won’t be a problem usc would just be like home as if I’m playing in my backyard

SC: You do have offers from schools across the country, but is potentially moving across the country something that can be sort of scary for you? Or is the change something you would welcome?

LTG: The change will be something I welcome I’m not scared to leave my family

SC: Can you talk a bit about what USC can provide to you academically?

LTG: A good degree the after football life and being the man im suppose to be in the classroom

SC: Of course you don’t have to know now, but do you have any idea of what you want to study/major in college wherever you go?

LTG: Haha I don’t know right now but when it comes too that point my mom is going to be the one help me decide what I should do

SC: What are some other schools that are high up on your list at the moment?

LTG: I’m open to everyone don’t have a list at the moment

SC: Do you have any idea of when you plan on releasing a top schools list or committing?

LTG: No commitment gonna take place at adidas all American bowl

SC: Do you plan on cutting down schools soon, or is that gonna come further down the line?

LTG: Further down not right now cause of Covid

SC: Where have the USC coaches talked about playing you? Your considered an athlete with versatility to play many positions, but where would they like to play you if you were to end up at USC?

LTG: I consider myself as an Athlete so I can see myself everywhere on the field meaning defense, offense, and all special teams. I honestly would like to play as an athlete.

SC: Have the coaches expressed any preference to you on what they think would be best for you at the next level?

LTG: Prob saftey
