Basketball Practice Report & News

February 10, 2020

While everyone is focused on the news surrounding Clay Helton adding another quality assistant coach on the defensive side of the ball, the basketball team is looking to come home and break a 3-game losing streak.

**A couple of quick recruiting items.  Evan Mobley is recruiting his butt off and per one source, the team feels very good about their chances to get Zaire Williams signature.  I’m also told there is a silent commit who is also considered a top-100 prospect.

**In the time I was allowed to watch practice today, which was actually much longer than normal, I’d say the team looked like they have moved on from the weekend of what could have been.  I know they had a longer than usual film takes a while to review all 24 turnovers, 18 of which happened in the second half.

**Lots of drilling with the emphasis on footwork and maintaining the pivot foot.

**The Trojans best pure shooter on the team might be red shirting.  Noah Baumann never misses a shot.

**I was encouraged to see Coach Enfield doing so much instructing with the offensive sets.

**Coach Hart and Mobley step in and emphasize floor spacing and ball fakes.  Sometimes when we’re watching a game we can see what the guys are doing, however, it’s the little things...the nuance of the game which makes things work better.

**With Washington up next Thursday night at 6:00PM inside Galen, there was a heavy dose of zone offensive sets.  SEE ABOVE^^^ \It’s how you make a zone defender guess.

**Lots of free throw shooting after practice.

**After practice the team celebrated Jonah Matthews birthday.  Unfortunately, Kyle Sturdivant, was not able to be there while hge attends to the death of his father.   Coach Enfield talks about Kyle’s loss, as well as how the team moves forward.
