JUST IN: USC set to hire Donte Williams as Cornerbacks Coach

USC has found its replacement for Greg Burns. Sources close to the situation told Scott Schrader of USCScoop that Oregon assistant coach Donte Williams would be coming to USC to coach cornerbacks a few days ago and the hire was reported today by the Athletic as well.

Williams, who joined Mario Cristobal’s staff in 2017, is known as a very strong recruiter who has been named a “top recruiter” by many different publications over the past few seasons. Prior to Oregon, he was the also the cornerbacks coach at Arizona, Nebraska, and San Jose State.

In 2014, SJSU led the country in both passing yards allowed (117.8) and passing touchdowns allowed (6).In Williams’ last season at San Jose State, the Spartans ranked second in passing yards allowed (157.8), 29th in passing touchdowns allowed (16) and 34th in total defense (358.5).

In 2019, Oregon finished 14th in the nation in defensive passing efficiency and 9th in total scoring defense en route to a 12-win season a Rose Bowl victory.
