Wednesday Notes & Observations: Holiday Bowl Edition!

December 18, 2019

The 2019 Trojans are preparing for the Holiday Bowl, however, my attention was still on the results from today’s Early Signing Day for the 2020 recruiting class.

There’s no way to sugar coat it...the Trojan Family is charting a course over waters never seen before.  As of today the Trojans finished No.12 in the conference with their recruiting haul...if there were 100 teams in the mix, I’d call it a success.  The conference only has 12 teams.

I never thought I’d live long enough to see schools like Oregon State and Washington State have better recruiting classes than USC.  I’ll delve deeper into this subject later.  Right now with everyone’s emotions still raw, including’s best to take a deep breath or two.

**The team was in shorts & shells today with practice starting at 3:00PM

**Clay Helton was not running practice today as he was on an airplane heading down to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl presser with Iowa head Coach Kirk Ferentz

**The players who I had a chance to speak with really had no opinion on the class who was signed...their focus is on sending the seniors out on a winning note in their last bowl game.

**Yesterday I mentioned that Olaijah Griffin left the field with a noticeable limp...I did not see him leave the practice field so I cannot say for sure if he was there today....I was at basketball practice when the team went in for the first 20 minutes.

**Talanoa Hufanga has a soft cast on his right looks like a mini club.

**The PAC12 refs were being used again today during practice.

**Practice was over at 5:00
