JUST IN: USC Head Coach Clay Helton to be retained for 2020 season

December 4, 2019

Clay Helton will be USC’s football coach in 2020. After over a week of speculation regarding the embattled head coach’s future, reports that Helton would be retained emerged Tuesday night from the Athletic and others. Today, it was announced officially by athletic director Mike Bohn that Helton will be back for at least another season.

Helton holds a 40-21 overall record but is just 13-11 over the past two seasons and has been on the “hot seat” for the majority of the past season.

He joined USC in 2010 as the QB coach under Lane Kiffin after stops at Duke, Houston, Memphis, and Arkansas State. He replaced Ed Orgeron as the interim coach in 2013 and then Steve Sarkisian as the interim coach in 2015. After that season, Helton was retained full time by Pat Haden, then given an extension through 2023 by Lynn Swann in 2018. He currently holds a Pac-12 championship and Rose Bowl to his name.

USCScoop.Com will continue to have the latest on USC’s decision to retain Clay Helton for next season.
