#BasketballSChool: USC Mens Basketball Tips Off vs Pepperdine Tonight

November 19, 2019

The Pepperdine Waves will enter tonight’s contest with a 3-1 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 73-69.   The USC Trojans come into the matchup with a 4-0 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent road game against the Nevada Wolf Pack, 76-66.

Neither team shot particularly well from behind the arc in their last game, however, the Trojans will again have a significant advantage in the paint over the smaller Waves.  The Trojans had a good shooting game against Nevada as they connected on 29 of their 65 field goal attempts (44.6%), but they were less than good from behind the three-point line (27.8%).  USC won the turnover battle against the Nevada (11-8),   If the Trojans can keep their turnovers below double-digit numbers this season, they’re going to be a difficult team to beat once the outside shooting improves.  Against Abeliene, the Waves turned the ball over 17 times and also lost the rebounding battle.

Pepperdine is lead by former Washington Huskies head coach, Lorenzo Romar who is back in Malibu for his second go-around.

Key Players for the Waves are Jr. PG Colbey Ross and Sr. forward Kameron Edwards.

Ross, who is averaging 17.0 points and 8.3 assists (ranking fifth nationally), is on the Lou Henson Award preseason watch list (for the nation's top mid-major player)...he has made his first 21 free throw attempts of the season...and 30 straight dating back to last season. The school record is 34 in a row set back during the 2015-16 season.

Kameron Edwards has scored 21, 22 and 20 points in the last three games.

After tonight’s game, the schedule really starts to ramp up.  On Friday night the Trojans host the Temple Owls before heading on the road for the Thanksgiving weekend where they’ll play in the 2019 ESPN Orlando Invitational; the field includes the Trojans first game against the Fairfield Stags and another potential match up with Temple.  The rest of the field includes Harvard, Marylan, Texas A&M, Davidson, and Marquette.

With the football season winding down, tonight is the perfect chance to get acquainted with the Trojan basketball team, so come on out and support the Men of Troy.
