Unheralded Heros: USC DB Jordan McMillan

November 14, 2019

Every football program across the country has a significant number of players sacrificing their time and bodies every day to help their school’s football program win games. They may not play each game or even at all, but they’re at practice, in the weight room, film room and supporting their teammates each day and are vital to the success of a football program.

They are the walk ons. These dudes aren’t on scholarship, but their effort doesn’t go unnoticed by their teammates and coaches. We spend most of our time talking to the “Stars” of ther team and the guys playing every game, but it’s important to us to recognize the guys who don’t get much shine.

I began talking to redshirt freshman DB Jordan McMillan a few months before he enrolled at  USC. He went to high school basically down the street from USC at Loyola HS. McMillan had 73 tackles (5 for losses) and two sacks his senior season for the Cubs. He’s also one of four USC players from Loyola. Christian Rector, Jack Webster Jack Casasante also prepped there.

Last season McMillan wasn’t expected to play, but his interception against Notre Dame at the Coliseum a year ago nearly helped the Trojans defeat the Irish. He may be a walk on, but McMillan can flat out play and his teammates will all tell you that.

What USC fans will appreciate most is work ethic and no-excuses mentality. USC Scoop spoke to McMillan after practice Wednesday, something we’d been hoping to do well before then
