Tuesday Notes & Observations: #Basketballschool Edition (10/29)

October 29, 2019

The football season still has a lot left to play out including this Saturday’s tussle with the Oregon Ducks, however, Trojan fans should be getting ready for basketball season as well.  The 2019/20 squad is young...they’re deep...and they’re focused.

Here’s a sampling of what we were able to see before practice was closed to the media.

**It’s easy to see why Quinton Adlesh was selected as a team captain.  The guy is all business...during warm ups he’s glancing down the single file line as they go through their strectching repetitions making sure everyone is participating.

**It does appear that some take the stretching a little more serious than others...S&C coach Kurtis Schultz, aka, Thanos, notices too and let’s out a yell from the soul of his incredibly large body, “DO IT RIGHT OR I’LL ADD SOME MORE STUFF!!!”  He caught my attention...I sytarted doing some waist bends all the way to the ground!  LOL

**Daniel Utomi tweaked his ankle in the scrimmage against Santa Clara last week, and sat out today’s practice.  It’s not considered serious...just giving the rest necessary since there’s no need to push it this early in the preseason.

**Elijah Weaver was back prcticing with the team today after missing the scrimmage...some knee swelling so it was just precautionary.

**Speaking of the scrimmage against Santa Clara...the Trojans won and most of the heavy lifting was done by the freshman....especially down the stretch when Kyle Studivant took over ignoring the pressure.  This was a good learning experience for the younger they know they can get the job done on their own without the upperclassmen.  Also of note, FWIW, Villanova and North Carolina had a scrimmage and ‘Nove won...or so I was told.

**One of the drills the team runs has to so with dribble penetration, kick it back out to the top of the arc, and flare out to the open spot for the pass...knock down the jumper from behind the arc.  When the guys are doing it right and in the flow, it’s beautiful and Coach Capko sees it too...”Simple Basketball!!!”
