USC An Opportunity Jake Garcia couldn't pass up

We first saw F‍our-Star Narbonne QB Jake Garcia‍ in the Fall of 2017 when he was just a freshman at Long Beach Poly. He was already a kid who stood out physically, but it was then Jackrabbit defensive coordinator and former Trojan linebacker Chris Claiborne who made sure we paid attention to the young quarterback.

Current Ole Miss QB Matt Corral had transferred to Poly in the Spring of 2017 and was be the starter that year, but Garcia got significant playing time as Corral’s backup. In fact, it was Garcia who spearheaded a near comeback for Poly versus Gardena Serra late in the season.

So, there was nearly no doubt Garcia would be a highly-recruited prospect by the time he was a senior. Although just a junior now, Garcia’s an impressive dude, extremely talented and already has offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio St., Oregon, Texas, USC and more. 23 scholar ship offers total thus far

But Garcia verbally committed to USC a few weeks ago, not long after Mater Dei QB Bryce Young‍ flipped his commitment from the Trojans to Alabama.

There was little doubt about Garcia’s strong affinity for USC as far back as two years ago when we first met him, but sometimes timing and opportunity isn’t present when making an important decision like choosing a college. With Young committed to USC, the chances for the Trojans to sign a QB like Garcia, Alemany QB Miller Moss and others were extremely low.

When Young decommitted, Garcia didn’t hesitate with his decison to commit after talking thngs over with his family. A family loaded with USC fans I might add. Garcia showed me a video on Monday of an early birthday bash where much of the decor was Cardinal and Gold. His family even provided Trojan headgear, a sword and ladder to stand up on as if he was celebrating a USC victory at the Coliseum while the USC Trojan Marching Band played. I gotta admit, it was a pretty cool party.

USC Scoop had our first in-depth conversation with Garcia on Monday after practice at Narbonne. He talked about his decison to commit to the Trojans, what led up to his decision, who he contacted at USC to let them know, his family of USC fans and much more.
