USC held one of its annual 7on7 Tournaments on Sunday. Premium came back to win the tournament by defeating Lincoln out of San Diego in Championship game. Premium was led by 2022 QB Maalik Murphy (Serra), WR CJ Williams (Mater Dei) and RB/DB Tayvion Beasley (St. John Bosco). Premium went into the tournament with only eight players, meaning most of the players had to play both offense and defense.

All three talented upcoming sophomores earned a USC offer over the weekend and Trojan Insiders Jesus Contreras caught up with the trio to get their thoughts.

CJ Williams

CJ Williams had this to say about his day “Personally for me I went out there with the same mentality as always, win and I put whether USC offered me or not in the hands of God”.

JC: How were you made aware of the offer?

CJ Williams: Coach Helton called him over and told me he had spoken on the phone with Coach Rollinson (Mater Dei Head Coach) and they had a brief conversation regarding the type of student I am and how I have a great work ethic. He then told me that these are the type of young men he is looking for in his program and he let me know that the University of Southern California was offering me a scholarship.

JC: What was your Reaction to the scholarship offer?

CJ Williams: It was really an unexplainable feeling. The fact that Coach Helton himself was the one to speak to me along with many of the positional coaches just made it that much better. The coaches made me feel wanted in the program and even went as far as introducing themselves to my mother and I feel like that is a really big deciding factor in deciding where I would want to make my home for the years in which I spend in college. As of now USC is definitely a top priority for me and I am looking forward to building a relationship with the coaching staff.

Tayvion Beasley

JC: What are your thoughts on your offer from USC?

Tayvion Beasley: This is a big time offer because I have wanted to go to USC since I was little. I have watched USC since Reggie Bush so this is a big thing for me.

JC: How were you made aware of the offer?

Tayvion Beasley: I was pulled aside by Defensive Backs coach Greg Burns and Grad Assistant Chris Hawkins and they told me USC. His reaction was a big smile. Tayvion watched coach Hawkins at USC and looks forward to building a good relationship with all of the USC coaches.

Maalik Murphy

Murphy is a Pro-style quarterback with incredible arm strength who can sling the ball all over the field. Although he has yet to start a varsity game, the young signal caller boasts double digit offers.

JC: What are your thoughts on your USC offer?

Maalik Murphy: I’m very excited that I got it, to know that I have the ability to play at my homeschool once I leave for college is a great feeling.

JC: How were you made aware of your offer?

Maalik Murphy: When coach Clay Helton pulled me aside after the tournament was over. I was very happy when he told me that he was offering

We are still a long way from signing day for the 2022 class but we will keep a close eye on these three gifted young men. USC coaching staff is putting themselves in good position with their recruiting efforts to keep the homegrown talent at home. Most of the time we talk recruiting with USC targets Chris Hawkins is mentioned, his relationship with the recruits is a big influence.
