Trojan Insider was informed by sources nearly 18 days ago McCoy had a rough adjustment at Texas. Despite an impressive performance during spring ball for the Longhorns, he’s decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal and head back to USC. The decision to enter the portal and transfer from Texas wasn’t decided on until last week.

According to those familiar with the situaiton, McCoy began wondering early in the Spring semester if he’d made a mistake with his decision to depart USC during a highly emotional and toxic period at USC. We’re told his heart remained back on the West Coast.

The NCAA transfer portal process for McCoy began Friday with him submitting his request with the Texas compliance department and should be cleared to transfer within 48 hours. McCoy will begin the process to enroll again at USC.

Although his family strongly urged him to stick it out at Texas for the remainder of the year and evaluate the situation then, McCoy felt that would lead to him forming an even stronger bond with his teammates and he’d end up playing three to four years at a school his heart wasn’t with.

Sources told us McCoy’s family gathered last week to discuss this situation and it was determined Bru was 100 percent certain about his decision to transfer back to USC. There was zero doubt in his mind about returning home to the West Coast.

He and his family met with Tom Herman and the Texas staff on Wedensday and they left knowing McCoy would not return with them.

One interesting item to note, McCoy never submitted his request with the NCAA to be cleared to play in 2019 while he was at Texas. Submitting a request with the NCAA to cleared to play this season will be one of the first items they’ll address once he’s enrolled at USC.

This decision wasn’t an easy one and there will be plenty of backlash from the Lone Star State, but McCoy is prepared for that and also the possibility he may have to sit out the 2019 season.
