Yeah my buddy's night was mid-week and I sheet you not...3 to 1 girl to guy ratio. This damn thread has me on spotify non-stop living in the past at the moment.

80s themed Scooptv in your future amigo.
The reason for the 3:1 ratio should have been obvious, especially mid week! LOL

If we do an 80's SCoopTV, you're in! Scott and I have actually discussed inviting a subscriber on for a hot take segment. I actually have an outfit from club days that still (barely) fits, so if we do it I'll get dressed up...maybe Halloween!! haha
so you never know!
HAHA...In the words of Ministry "cause to me everyday is Halloween" LOL.

Dude, not gonna lie, before Covid my wife and I hit the dance floor twice a month at a little place here in Atlanta. 2nd Saturday was 80's and 4th Saturday was Coffin Classics (Dark Wave/Goth/Industrial). I ain't ashamed to say it: I'm an 80s club kid for life and while I may not be good at most things, the one thing, and I do mean the one thing I can say with utmost confidence is that my ass can dance.
I can almost smell the clove cigarettes burning in the background while Soft Cell plays at the Stratus Club in Pacific Beach.

Did you all ever make it to Florentine Gardens? Richard Blade use to DJ there
I know you were asking Mark but damn, I have to respond to this.

1st club I went to when I had got out of boot camp and stationed at Pendleton for Infantry Training School was Florentine Gardens...Damn, had breakfast two weeks ago with my buddy I went there with...November of 1986. Met a girl named Mercedes and she was fine fine fine. I just remember being a little tipsy and my boy telling her to watch out for me LOL

Being a PDX kid, LA was a crazy playground. Hollywood blvd was quite the cruising spot, mini trucks littered the blvd doing 5 mph and we didn't have a car...we took the greyhound up from Pendleton.

Love Richard Blade's cds he used to put out called Flashback Favorites...lot of goodies there. He still DJs on Sirius XM 1st Wave.

Anyhoo, Florentines, the Blvd..this if for you Helen:

OMG....CLOVES...they don't even sell them in the US anymore...at least not the Clove cigarettes, just Clove cigars.

The first club I went to was at a place called CLUB Plaza in PDX...a former hotel (fun fact, its a hotel again now and I spent my wedding night there just shy of three years ago LOL). Anyway, I was a shy sophomore in high school and literally weighed 102 pounds. All it took in those days was $8.00 and I was in heaven. $5.00 to get in the club, $1.75 for a pack of Djarum Special Filter (the brown ones), and a $1.25 for a quart of Olde English 800 which was all my lightweight ass needed. I fell in love every Saturday night, had my heart broken almost instantly, and girls taught me everything a naive baby club boy needed to know LOL.

Time of my life!

Some of the club mixes were crazy. I remember a 12 minute New Order mix...it was like a fucking cardio workout!

And if you and the wife are feeling a little 80's freaky...get a strobe light, play this in the background, and then do what Deeznutz does.

Ha another good one. Been watching twitch tv on occasion since Covid and rest assured we have had a few dance nights LOL. The last video night DJVJAnt played this once banned video..you may have to ban me.

There was a reason this was banned so if it is too much for this thread I understand.

All of those British 80's dudes had amazing voices. Jimmy Sommerville.

Bananarama; Venus

This was massive within the 1st Mar Div. If any entity dared harm them, especially the Blue eyed Brunette; well, Too say we were sweet on 'em; I'll leave that up too you... lol

This Jarhead would have stormed the gates of Hell armed with only my K-Bar for her... Rah!!

Bananarama definitely made their mark but I was more akin too the more serious girls - Xene, Suzie and the Banshees, Patty Smith, Kate Bush, but I did love the girls in the B52's...all three of them!

I just got a phenomenal poster of the Queen of Goth Ms Siouxsie Sioux framed and hung on my office wall. B-52s still bring it, saw them last year with OMD and Berlin. Love me some Go-Go's too!

Bananarama knock offs. When this song came out I actually thought it was Bananarama.
Actually, the Belle Stars were around first. Jus' sayin'.
You would be correct by 6 months. haha

80s music and genre is my wheelhouse so to speak. My only point was that they weren't a knockoff. The 80s was the 2nd British Invasion with music.
No worries, just messing with you my family was in the music business for 40 years.
I remember you speaking to that in the past. Every now and then I think back to my dance club days and how we used to dance, and trying to visualize my age demo dancing to that music...TODAY! LOL
what clubs do you remember?
I like how you phrased that..."I remember." LOL

My favorite dance club in the 80's was The Odyssey on Beverly and La Cienega. There was also Dancing Waters in San Pedro, The Infiniti Club in Long Beach...the clubs on Santa Monica Blvd were as prevalent as the ABC stored in Honolulu.

And then there were all the pop up spots and mini dives for the punk shows!
HAHAHA....point well taken. I liked a lot of genres of music, tho I am an 80's kid and love all 80's. That said, I went everywhere from the Palace on Vine to the Anti-Club on Melrose to Helter Skelter at the old Stardust (now Home Depot) on Sunset. I got to LA on the back of 80's just shy of 1987, so I cut my teeth at many an underage club in PDX beginning in 1983.
I can almost guarantee we bumped into each other at some point. Maybe even the Rock n Roll Dennys in the wee morning hours. Haha!!
It could have been at the Atomic Cafe after steamy night a Madame Wongs or the HK Cafe...punk nights in Chinatown? Good times

Or Al's Bar in the Arts District downtown...no longer exists but damn fun place, as long as you had waders to use the pisser.

Yes! My spam fried rice special owes a lot to that dish. Loved the noodles too.

Best jukebox ever...
